English language class
Our English language classes are held on a Tuesday morning in the cafe of the church from 9.30 am. Lessons are split into two sections: the first lasts for fifty minutes with a five minute break and the second is twenty-five minutes. Our emphasis is on improving speaking and listening skills. The class is aimed at pre-intermediate level (however we have people of mixed ability, both advanced and beginner).
Following the lesson we enjoy refreshments together and someone usually brings in cake from their home-country – this can be anything from matcha manju tea-cake from Japan to brigadeiro cake from Brasil! Yum, yum.
We currently have one teacher, Scott, who is TEFL qualified and has a passion for helping others improve their English. The class also benefits from native English speakers who sit with students and help with listening and speaking.
After refreshments, there is an optional Bible study for those keen to work on their reading, pronunciation and understanding skills, as we examine a passage from the Bible. This can be great fun as we combine English learning with grappling with the meaning of a passage. Be bold; join us!
